Assistant Professor - Asian Studies/Asian History
Worcester Polytechnic Institute

Worcester Polytechnic Institute seeks a tenure track,
assistant professor to teach Asian studies beginning August
2007. Specialty open, with a preference for East Asian or
Southeast Asian history.

Candidates must have earned PhD, strong scholarly research,
and ability to contribute to global history and international
studies programs. WPI recently adopted a BA option, and the
department is expanding its options for majors. Students and
faculty also have opportunities to participate in twenty
overseas project centers including Bangkok and Hong Kong. WPI
is eager to hear from women and underrepresented minorities
concerning this position and all others open at the

University of Washington School of Music
Position in Ethnomusicology beginning Autumn 2007

Responsibilities:                  Duties will include
teaching courses ranging from undergraduate surveys to
graduate seminars in ethnomusicological theory and method;
participation in interdisciplinary programs; advising and
service on degree committees. 

Rank & Salary:                   The appointment will be made
at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure-track.  Salary is
negotiable and dependent on experience and qualifications.

Qualifications:                     Ph.D. or equivalent
advanced degree.  In addition, applicants must have expertise
in the music cultures of Islamic South East Asia and a solid
grounding in both progressive and traditional approaches to
Ethnomusicology.  

Programs:                             The UW Ethnomusicology 
programs usually include 5-10 undergraduate General Studies
majors, and 25-30 graduate students in the School of Music and
the Department of Anthropology.   In addition to the academic
faculty, the Ethnomusicology Division includes a full-time
archivist and two faculty-rank visiting artists in world music
performance.

Consortium for Advanced Study of Thai
Summer Thai Language Program at Chiang Mai University

An intensive eight-week course for students with at least
intermediate-level study of Thai language (or the equivalent)
offered by the Consortium for Advanced Study of Thai in
cooperation with the Faculty of HUmanities, Chiang Mai
University, Chiang Mai, Thailand, from June 25 through August
