<p class=MsoNormal>I am pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Cynthia
Wells as UCR’s Director of Sponsored Programs Administration, effective
January 1, 2010. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>Cynthia is a highly qualified leader in the university research
environment; she is recognized for her ability to manage complex legal
issues. She brings extensive and lengthy experience in sponsored programs
administration as well as legal training and practical legal
experience. Cynthia joined UCR’s research management team in
2008 as our Assistant Director of Sponsored Programs Administration. She
came to UCR from UCI where she had served as a Principal Contract and Grant
Officer since 2001. From 1986 to 1993, Cynthia worked as a Subcontracts
Administrator for two large defense firms. After receiving her JD, she
practiced law from 1996 to 2001.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>As the Director of Sponsored Programs Administration,
Cynthia will direct and manage the operations and activities of Sponsored
Programs to ensure that all members of UCR’s research community receive
quality service. She is responsible for training and supervising the
Sponsored Programs professional staff, including the MTA Coordinator and the
Subawards Coordinator. She will set goals for the design and implementation
of policies, procedures, and operational tools related to the submission,
negotiation, acceptance and oversight of sponsored projects proposals and
awards. She will participate in the development and presentation of
internal and campuswide training in research administration. She will
also represent the university and its Principal Investigators in high-level
negotiations and execution of awards with Federal, State, and local
governments, private agencies, corporations and foundations; as Director, she
will provide the highest level of expertise in structuring, negotiating, and
executing complex and specialized agreements related to the conduct of
UCR’s sponsored programs and research activities.<o:p></o:p></p>
