I would offer that he's playing to the parents who do make over $60,000 and therefore face the fee increases. There's a real "hey, I'm just a guy who's doing the best he can under the circumstances" sort of feel to his responses - a feeling shared by many middle-class people in California. In fact, he's talking in blue-collar terms, separating himself from those eggheads who look up the etymology of "furlough." Thus he distances himself even from the interviewer, who, after all, works for the "liberal media."<div><br><div><div><div>There is, of course, a certain irony in the cemetery manager joke. We certainly believe the top has been taken over by zombies, brain-eaters who multiply after eating the dead.</div><div><br></div><div>It would be interesting to compare this interview with any others he gave in Minnesota and Texas.</div><div><br></div><div>To be fair (and dear God, it kills me to be fair), we don't know how this was edited. I'm not saying he didn't say those things, but I wonder how much more he said in response to each answer. And the suggestion that architecture students remodel the President's house is patently ridiculous. On the other hand, did Dynes hold toga parties at the place? I mean, what happened to cause $8 million in repairs?
