Erwin Chemerinsky is one of the pre-eminent scholars of constitutional
law in the United States. Dean Chemerinsky has written extensively
on the constitutional implications of the “war on terror” and for more
than six years has represented a Guantanamo Bay detainee who was
indefinitely imprisoned without charge. He is the author of six
books and over one hundred law review articles on constitutional law and
federal jurisdiction. Dean Chemerinsky also has maintained an
active pro bono appellate practice and has regularly argued cases before
the United States Supreme Court. He is the founding Dean and
Distinguished Professor of Law of the School of Law at the University of
California, Irvine. Prior to coming to UC Irvine in 2008, Dean
Chemerinsky was Professor of Law and Political Science at Duke
University, and was for over twenty years a Professor of Law at the
University of Southern California Law School. <br>

The Law & Society Program is an interdisciplinary academic program
with over 650 participating majors from Political Science, Sociology,
History, Philosophy, and Economics. Law & Society Program
Speaker Series hosts symposia and talks on legal topics of public
import. This program has been made possible by funding from the
