Mary, I haven't had more plagiarists than usual, but I've had an
enormously high number of flakes in both fall and winter. Like students
who disappear in the third week and never drop or withdraw. I'm
wondering whether this is a trend or I'm a probability nexus.<br>

Whatever it is, it's weird. And disconcerting.<br>

P.S. I require Safe Assignment submissions by the start of class on the
due date. If I don't have both the hard copy and the virtual copy on
time, the paper is tardy and earns a penalty. If the submission is made
after class is dismissed, the paper is late and is penalized further.
And so on. I always have students make a test submission a couple of
weeks before the first paper is due, just to make sure they know how to
do it. I give them a point of credit. It's not much, but some students
will do anything for an easy point.<br>

Here's a separate question. Has anyone else been finding more
plagiarism cases than usual this quarter? I usually find two or three,
but this quarter it shot up to seven. (I teach a whole class period
about avoiding plagiarism, and we go over it four other times in class
throughout the quarter, so I don't think it's ignorance . . .)<br>
