<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt; LINE-HEIGHT: normal; mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto"><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 12pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman','serif'; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'">The High School Outreach Program of the Inland Area Writing Project is currently seeking instructors to join its team of consultants to help high schools prepare their students for the Analytical Writing Placement Exam (the exam formerly known as the Subject A) required of all UC applicants.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt; LINE-HEIGHT: normal; mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto"><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 12pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman','serif'; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'">For those unfamiliar with the program, here is how it works. Practice exams will be sent to high schools to administer to their students, and these exams will be <I>graded analytically</I> by qualified instructors from the UCR English Department. In addition to the analytical grading of these exams, instructors serve as <I>consultants</I>, visiting particular high school classrooms and giving presentations on how students can better prepare themselves as readers and writers who will be required to demonstrate the academic skills needed for the official Analytical Writing Placement Exam. <o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt; LINE-HEIGHT: normal; mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto"><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 12pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman','serif'; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'">Consultants will grade no more than 35 papers for a single class, to which they will give a presentation for a single class period (about an hour). Consultants will be paid $215 per visit, which is meant to cover time spent grading, time for traveling, gas money, and the actual visitation time. Prior to grading these exams, consultants will need to attend a two-hour orientation and norming session during the month of February. The actual presentations to high schools take place from the end of March to the beginning of June. </SPAN></P>

The ideal consultant is one who has experience with the E.T.S. grading of the official Analytical Writing Placement Exam and has teaching experience in UCR's Basic Writing Program.
