</font><font color="#57585A"><b>Mike Davis</b>, professor of history at

UC Irvine, is the author of <i>City of Quartz: Excavating the Future in

Los Angeles</i>, <i>The Ecology of Fear</i>, and twenty other books. In

1998 he was named a MacArthur Fellow, and in 2007 he received the Lannan

Literary Foundation Award in Nonfiction. Davis will join the UCR faculty

as Distinguished Professor of Creative Writing in 2008-2009. <br><br>
