Geraldine Heng is Associate Professor of English and Director of the
Medieval Studies Program at the University of Texas Austin. She is the
author of the groundbreaking book,<br><br>
Empire of Magic: Medieval Romance and the Politics of Cultural Fantasy.
New York: Columbia University Press, 2003. Her current project is called
“The Invention of Race in the Middle Ages.” In 2000-2001, she
co-directed the University of California Humanities Research Institute
Seminar on “Theorizing Race in Pre- and Early Modern Contexts.”<br>
