Subject: Recycling Bins in the Engl. Dept. -- RECYCLE!!<br><br>
The GSEA has placed 5 recycling cardboard bins (the same type trash and
paper go in) throughout the department. These bins have light blue
lids that are marked for recycling and are located:<br><br>
1st floor - next to the entry door to the department<br>
2nd floor - just inside of the exterior spiral stairwell<br>
2nd floor - just inside of the interior (switchback) stairwell <br>
2nd floor - grad lounge*<br>
3rd floor - just inside of the interior (switchback) stairwell<br><br>

*The heavily trafficked grad lounge has a bin for (cleaned) non-CRV items
(like that tray from your frozen dinner) and will also soon sport a
number of crates (we only have paper bags right now) of the same light
blue color for separated CRV bottles and plastics and aluminum.<br><br>
Although the GSEA hopes to mostly see objects of CRV value (aluminum
cans, glass and plastic bottles, etc.) in these bins please do not
hesitate to throw in other (cleaned) recyclable materials if you are
otherwise going to trash them. We will take care of all materials
accordingly. Though it takes only a moment to see (or guess) if an
object is recyclable, some hundreds of thousands of years are needed to
break down plastics in a landfill. Even a thin plastic bag is
extrapolated to take 1,000 years. Small things, like the plastic
lid on your paper coffee cup, can also be recycled. When in doubt,
recycle it. And these things do matter.<br><br>
The best way to reduce your "footprint" is an increased
awareness of how you create excess/surplus/waste in general. Buying
biodegradable materials, using a thermos instead of a new red plastic cup
for your coffee every day, and shuttling food in those reusable grocery
bags are all great ways to start. Please contact Alan at
