Making of the Modern World Program<br>
University of California San Diego (E. Roosevelt College)<br><br>
The Making of the Modern World Program (MMW) is a six-<br>
quarter (two year) interdisciplinary program required of all<br>
3,700 Eleanor Roosevelt College undergraduate students. MMW<br>
is the academic core of the college's general education<br>
requirements. MMW seeks to provide all students with a basic<br>
level of global cultural literacy from pre-literate<br>
societies to the twenty-first century. The MMW website is:<br>

position of Academic Coordinator (Assistant Director) for<br>
courses MMW 4, 5 and 6 (covering 1200 CE to the present) is<br>
available. This is a one-year (12-month) appointment,<br>
beginning July 2008, which can be re-appointed annually. Job<br>
duties include: hiring, managing, supervising, and mentoring<br>
graduate TAs, developing course writing assignments,<br>
assisting in the investigation of academic misconduct cases,<br>
leading academic enrichment programs (especially for<br>
transfer students), and participating in MMW program<br>
development and ERC college events. In addition to the<br>
responsibilities as Academic Coordinator, the person will be<br>
expected to teach and will be appointed in the title of<br>
lecturer in this capacity. Our ideal candidate will<br>
demonstrate a familiarity with issues and problems of<br>
teaching in an interdisciplinary program and will have<br>
experience working well with a group of faculty members and<br>
graduate teaching assistants (particularly in a supervisory<br>
role). An international orientation and experience with<br>
program administration and teaching college composition are<br>
desirable. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or its equivalent in<br>
history, political science, religious studies, sociology,<br>
literature, philosophy, anthropology, composition, rhetoric,<br>
or other relevant areas from the humanities and social<br>
sciences. Salary commensurate with experience and based on<br>
published UC pay scales. Send cover letter, CV, statement of<br>

philosophy, sample syllabus, three letters of<br>
recommendation, and a writing sample (no more than 20 pages)<br>
