Hi, everyone. I'm finding this RMP posting very interesting and rather
appalling. But has anyone here registered with Pickaprof? I'd like to
know more about it, but I'd like info gleaned from personal experience,
not from the site itself. I'd like to see other people's grade spreads.
I suppose I could get that info if I asked Teri for help...maybe I will
ask about it.

Lately, my own grade spread seems to have gotten a bit B-heavy, and I'm
not completely happy with that. Every term, I have a couple of students
in each section who get B minuses but who I think ought to have gotten
C pluses. Things like participation and homeworks tend to skew the
grades up a bit for C students who are very diligent. I understand
this, and I'm working on tweaking the scale, but such tweaking is
tricky.

Say that five times without stopping, and see how you do.
grade distributions, which is making more people nervous. You have to
subscribe for $10 a year to get access to the grade histories. I'm
guessing that in the long run, the publication of the grade data is
more likely to result in grade deflation than inflation, as the worst
inflating offenders (many of them tenured) become exposed to peers and
administrators outside the direct chain of command.
