Dear Faculty:

We are pleased to share with you that the Office of Instructional
Development has set up a site where you can sign up for your preferred
method of course evaluation. Faculty have the option of choosing
paper or online (iEVAL). This site will also provide a listing of
courses that are to be evaluated for the quarter. Faculty can
select to have all courses use one method or only select some to be
online and others on paper. If you have previously used iEVAL in
the past you are automatically enrolled to use it the next time you
teach, if you prefer to change this default you can do so. In
addition, this site will also allow faculty to access past course
evaluations.

Benefits to using iEVAL include:
1) Students
can respond at any time thus freeing class time
2) iEVAL final course evaluation reports are available to faculty
on the first day of instruction of the following quarter. Paper
evaluations take much longer to process, usually 10 weeks.
3) In reviewing past course evaluation for faculty participants the
ratings remained consistent with their historical results. The
response rates are lower than the paper evaluation but we are working on
improving this by developing creative ways of encouraging and advertising
iEVAL to the students.
4) Students provide more constructive comments and behave more
maturely than in the paper format. As an example online comments require
minimal to no editing for profanity and inappropriate comments as
compared to paper comments.
5) Faculty have found that by making in class announcements they
are able to increase their response rate.
6) OID will provide periodic updates on response rates, faculty can
also access this information online.

Faculty can sign up for iEVAL at
www.ieval.ucr.edu To
log on faculty will be asked for their User Name (this can be found at

http://ucrtel.ucr.edu/ucrtel/telsearch.htm ) and Password (this is
the same password that is used to log in to the UCR webmail).

The site is available for changes starting on Monday, October 29, 2007
– Friday, November 9, 2007. iEVAL will be made available to
students from Monday, November 19 – Sunday, December 2, 2007.
