<DIV class=RTE>I know we all complain about the dearth of cultural activities in RiverSwamp, but on occasion we are treated to one of the faint miracles of a desert-inflicted mirage. A friend of mine, Alaska, is putting on her annual arts & music festival in Riverside's Downtown. Some local bands (Zombelle, Jesus Makes a Shotgun Sound) as well as some out-there bands (Vermillion Lies; No Paws (No Lions) coming from the Bay Area) will be performing during a 11-day spread. The first show starts tonight at Back to the Grind and ends there with Mika Miko and The New Motherfuckers on the following Friday. For the first year in recorded history, Riverside's city council has turned in their Anti-Youth, Anti-Culture vests for punk pants and an actual willingness to support this event for the first time.</DIV>
