<BR>Greetings All,<BR> <BR>There might have been some slight confusion about discussion course materials that <EM>could or could not </EM>be used in English 4/5 lecture courses. This email seeks to clarify any discrepancy.<BR> <BR>These are OPTIONAL TEXTS, but you can use them if you so wish:<BR> <BR>1) <U>Compass: Paths to Effective Reading</U><BR> <BR>-------see page 43 in the <U>Basic Writing Orientation Manual </U>for which 6 essays can be used in lecture. You can have students write on these, respond to them, discuss them, etc, for these six essays will not be used in the D-Course as graded material. Some of these readings, for instance, respond in interesting ways to readings in <U>Write It</U>.<BR> <BR>2) <U>Compass: Guidebook to English Grammar VOL TWO</U><BR> <BR>-------After due consideration, Dr. Briggs has decided that you can use material from this text in your lecture class <EM>if you would like</EM>. The first three chapters are additional grammar explanations on Parts of Speech, Verb Tenses, and Sentence Structures. The lion share of the book is comprised of various grammar workbook exercises compiled from McGraw-Hill's massive repository of material.
