The University of California, Davis is seeking applications for the position of Executive Director for the Center for Cooperative Research and Extension Services for Schools (CRESS).<br><br>
The Center for Cooperative Research and Extension Services for Schools (CRESS) creates, brokers, and delivers high quality, research-based programs and services that develop highly qualified teachers and other school professionals. CRESS works broadly - and often in partnership with other agencies and institutions - to serve all public schools, with a particular focus on historically underserved schools. One key strategy is to facilitate high quality cooperative research and development projects that can promote improved professional practice and student learning in K-12 schools. Located within the School of Education at the University of California Davis, the CRESS Center administers core programs funded by the University (Collaborative Research Grants Program and CRESS Teacher Research Program) and a significant array of externally funded programs including four California Subject Matter Professional Development Projects and the Center for Community-School Partnerships. New initiatives outlined in the CRESS Strategic Plan include school site leadership development, program evaluation, and participation in an emerging P-16 alliance of higher education, K-12, and business and labor for the greater Sacramento region. In addition, the Center conducts activities involving collaboration among various educational institutions and governing bodies, including the UC Office of the President, UCD faculty and academic units, the statewide Subject Matter Projects, the California Department of Education, county offices of education and regional consortia, California State University, Community Colleges, University Extension, and the UC Davis School/University Partnership Program.<br><br>
The Executive Director provides vision and intellectual leadership, ensures the quality of CRESS activities, develops and implements strategic plans and provides substantive leadership to CRESS coordinators who are directly responsible for programs. She/he facilitates the generation of collaborative research, "whole school" initiatives, and university-school projects that draw on interests and expertise from a broad base of academic faculty from the School of Education and across the UC Davis campus, CRESS directors and constituents in the field. She/he ensures that the project mix is aligned with the leading edge of needs in California education, and develops short-and long-term budget strategies to support program operations while maintaining flexibility to respond to emerging initiatives, and optimizes CRESS and School of Education resources in responding to the needs of schools and teachers. She/he develops partnerships with the broadest range of educational constituents and participants, including teachers, schools, districts, county offices of education, state and federal agencies, and policymakers. She/he is responsible for fundraising, as well as crafting and helping implement a larger fee-for-service financial structure. He/she enhances the visibility of CRESS via timely, compelling, dynamic, and entrepreneurial activities and publications. She/he conducts ongoing assessment of effectiveness of programs and operations.<br><br>
The Executive Director oversees the program directors, and provides for operational resources and direction and ensures compliance with University policies and procedures. She/he provides general oversight and leadership to the extramurally funded programs as they transition from state funding to fee-for-service and full cost recovery.<br><br>
The Executive Director reports to the dean of the School of Education, and works closely with a faculty advisory committee.<br><br>

Qualifications: Ph.D., Ed.D., or M.A. in Education or related field preferred. Experience in P-16 school settings, in teacher professional development, support services for children and families, and or field-based practitioner directed field research. Demonstrated competence and creativity in professional development activities, grant development, preparation, editing and publication, educational research activities, and long term monitoring of collaborative projects. Demonstrated ability to work with a broad spectrum of professionals concerned with public education, including teachers, principals, superintendents, curriculum and instruction personnel, elected and appointed officials, professional organization representatives, university faculty and administrators, and so forth. Experience with strategic development and planning. Demonstrated success in providing "whole school" collaborative improvement efforts. Knowledge and experience working with a P-16 educational collaborative or regional partnership. Knowledge of California state subject matter standards. Demonstrated understanding of the policy context for collaborative children's services in California and the nation. Understanding of the state and federal legislative processes and the interaction of policy, research and practice. Extensive experience in coordinating or directing policy, practice, research and/or technical assistance for local as well as large (including statewide) intermediary service. In-depth understanding of public schools and school reform practice and policy in California and the nation, and of the multicultural context of California and its implications for education. Knowledge of practical issues in interagency children's services, with direct experience in developing systems, designing and delivering workshops. Familiarity with the university academic environment, scholarly research, and the benefits of research-based practice. Professional presentation skills, with the ability to write for and speak to multiple audiences. Demonstrated managerial skills to provide leadership in operations, budgeting, and program development and implementation. Familiarity with the funding community and their funding priorities and foci within California and nationally. Experience in successfully competing for large-scale private, state and/or federal grants. Experience in working successfully in fee-for-service environments. Demonstrated insight into emerging initiatives in educational policy and practice, and funding. Exceptional communication skills.<br><br>
Special Conditions of Employment: This position is a critical position and subject to a background check. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation including criminal history and identity check. Work hours outside standard 8AM-5PM schedule.<br><br>
