<DIV>Hi there! It seems to me that an interesting novel for English 5 might be <EM>The Island of Dr. Moreau</EM> by H. G. Wells, with its focus on the problematics of being human, its hint of the macabre possibilities of genetic research, and the question of what exactly terms like "civilized" and "insane" mean. Of course it could easily relate to animal rights and the cruelties of science without ethical limits. I don't know if we've used it before, but it strikes me as an excellent text for basic argumentation as well as interpretation. Just a thought! If we've used it already, so much for the pitch. Some other works by Wells might serve, too...</DIV>
