Greetings everyone,

There seems to be some confusion about the BW3, Eng 4, and Eng 5 Discussion courses for this Winter. Here's the format. Basically, students will be required to complete a certain number of grammar exercises from the Prentice Hall Workbook. These exercises have been posted to the D COURSES Blackboard sites under the "Assignments" category. The answer key is also posted with the required assignments so that students can assess their work on their own. It is their responsibility to look up in the S & S Handbook and/or ask instructors about grammar issues with which they had difficulty. Students will need to turn in their completed exercises by March 11th in the Writing Resource Center.

PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR STUDENTS ARE ENROLLED IN A DISCUSSION COURSE.

This system relies on the motivation and honor of the students. Ideally, students would complete these exercises in conjunction with work they are doing in the lecture courses. To say the least, this is not ideal system; however, because of funding, staffing, and time constraints, this is what could be done on such short notice.

At this time, it appears that there will be D courses next quarter and next Fall, but it is difficult to hazard a commitment because of the current political climate. However, suggestions are always welcome as to how we can eficaciously reach students electronically.

Best,
