 $1,000, and a month stay at the Hotel Bergs in Riga, Latvia each summer, for one poet, playwright, or writer of fiction working in English. Though, neither the writer nor their project need be connected with Latvia.</span></span><span style="font-family:&quot;Garamond&quot;,&quot;serif&quot;;color:#333333"><br>

<span class="apple-style-span">And in March the BWR will begin taking applications for its week-long residency in Brora, Scotland.</span><br>

<span class="apple-style-span">Both emerging and established writers are encouraged to apply. Recent finalists and winners range from those who have yet to conceive of their first manuscripts, to writers who have been finalists for the National Book Award and
 numbered in the New Yorker&#8217;s &#8220;20 Under 40&#8221;. Previous winners include Salvatore Scibona, Joshua Cohen, Emma Jones, Amity Gaige, Kyle McCord.</span><br>
