<p class="MsoNormal">As of this quarter, we have a new type of directed study on the books, CWPA 297, which was created in response to restrictions that Grad Division placed on using CWPA 292 directed study units to do creative work. I wanted to make everyone
aware of the 297 option, and to explain the difference between the two directed studies:<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">CWPA 297 will be used for work on a creative project other than the thesis. These units
<u>do not </u>have to be approved by Grad Division.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">CWPA 292 is used for analytical studies. These units cannot be used to work on a creative project. Grad Division wants these units to be set up like a class, with a reading list and assignments. These units
<u>do</u> have to be approved by Grad Division. <o:p></o:p></p>
