Nominees for TA support from the UWP must be eligible for TA support according to Graduate Division regulations.<br> <br> Although our projections for the 2011-2012 academic year are uncertain, we are assembling a rank-list of applicants in case openings develop. Please nominate only your most accomplished candidate(s). Nominees must be excellent writers, preferably with teaching experience. They should have a high aptitude for working with freshmen and sophomores. <b>Once nominated, they should send us a ten-page writing sample, a letter of application, a vita, and any available student evaluations. A letter of recommendation from a faculty member who knows about their teaching would be helpful as well, though it is not a requirement.</b> This spring we will arrange with the nominees a time for them to take a quiz of their basic knowledge of English grammar and usage. There might also be an information session so that potential applicants can find out more about the responsibilities associated with these positions before they apply. As UWP Director, I will interview finalists. All TA-ships are for instruction in the writing program under the supervision of the faculty-in-charge. TAs must participate in the five-day fall orientation, enroll in English 301 and 302 their first quarter and then 302 for the rest of the year. The appointments are normally for one year with the possibility of renewal.<br> <br> We urge you to nominate your best few candidates. It is possible to re-nominate graduate students currently serving as UWP TAs.
