Common Ground commemorates the 30th anniversary of The Negro Ensemble Company's Off-Broadway production of A Soldier's Play. It originally opened November 20,1981 and ran for 468 performances. While it is about the investigation of a murder, A Soldier's Play is not a murder mystery in the strictest sense. It is the story of a murder investigation in a segregated Louisiana Army camp, where one man exposes the devastating effects of racism and self-hatred. This powerful, Pulitzer prize winning drama of World War II era explores the history of America's legacy of racism.</p>

Gone with its beauty is its heart. It's a place where broken dreams meet, converse, play themselves out and then return to that receptacle of yearning – that place in the back of the mind or heart where they can remain until the next time it is safe to air them out. On this particular night Betty's life flashes before her and she finds herself perplexed and frightened. She looks to her younger counterpart for redemption only to find frustration. As the night unfolds Betty looks for a way back to her dreams and her once youthful hope and passion. Ultimately she learns that even though dreams do not always come true . . . there is always hope and of course – tomorrow.</span></div>
