<b>Three U.S. Artists Travel to Kyiv</b><br>
In partnership with Center for Contemporary Art (CCA), Kyiv, and with support from The Trust for Mutual Understanding, Outpost has invited Jeff Cain, Adam Frelin, and Angie Waller to travel to Kyiv in June 2007 to give a presentation of their work and to develop a new artwork out of the experience, which will be presented in Los Angeles in 2008.<br><br>
<b>Jeff Cain</b> (based in Los Angeles) plans to collaborate with local artists to interact with the public on the street to develop a cultural map of Kyiv. Out of this workshop, he intends to develop an interactive website that poses as an official governmental branch of the Ministry of Culture but is in fact a network driven and informed by its users. <b>Adam Frelin</b> (based in Albany, NY) will develop a new video work called "The March." The video, shot entirely in Kyiv and edited and mixed in New York, will involve members of a Ukrainian marching band playing their instruments in solitary procession along Kyiv's wide boulevards. When realized, the piece will evoke ideas about how the past is experienced in an accelerated present and how individual experience and collective

<b>Angie Waller</b> (based in New York City) will use this travel opportunity to continue her investigation into urban progress and political resistance. In Kyiv, a city famous for the symbolic charge the Orange Revolution sent throughout the world, not to mention the level of political engagement it demonstrated among Ukrainians, the artist will collect and create an archive of photographs that explore the relationship between

<b>Two Ukrainian Artists in Residence in Los Angeles</b><br>
The Orange Revolution from late November 2004 to January 2005 in Ukraine marked the beginning of a new political culture and the emergence of a civil society willing and ready to actively participate in the democratic process. To date, however, there has been very little exposure of the sociopolitical and economic changes happening in Ukraine internationally. Similarly, Ukrainian artists are little known outside of Moscow. <br><br>
Therefore, to enhance understanding and appreciation of contemporary life and art in Ukraine, and to stimulate a cultural exchange of ideas, perspectives and experience, we have invited Ukrainian artists <b>Lesja Zajac and Olexander Gnilitsky (a.k.a., Institution of Unstable Thoughts)</b> to stay and work in Los Angeles for an extended stay during the fall of 2007. <br><br>
<b>Olexander Gnilitsky </b> incorporates painting, video, poetry, drawing, photography, kinetics, and many other available means and methodologies into his practice. <b>Lesja Zajac</b> is trained as an animator and brings her extensive knowledge of new media into the collaborative projects she realizes with Olexander under the umbrella of the collective they founded together and with three other members, the Institution of Unstable Thoughts, which has been active since 1996. Olexander´s and Lesja´s independent practices are enhanced by their collaborations. Their ideas are fluid and well served by their adept use of both traditional and new media. <br><br>
This residency is supported by The Trust for Mutual Understanding, Peter Norton Family Foundation, and Pasadena Art Alliance.<br><br>
