12.0pt'>Poets <u>Charles Harper Webb</u> and <u>Tony Barnstone</u> will be
reading in </span></font>Riverside on Wednesday, November 15, at 7 p.m. The reading will take place at the Universalist Unitarian Church, 3657 Lemon
St. in downtown Riverside (next to the Riverside Public Library). ! The
event is supported by the Riverside School for the Arts, Poets & Writers,
and the Associated Students of Riverside City College.* For those who are
interested, a book signing will follow the reading. <br>

<b><span style='font-weight:bold'>Charles Harper Webb</span></b>’s poems
have appeared in <i><span style='font-style:italic'>Paris Review</span></i>, <i><span
style='font-style:italic'>American Poetry Review</span></i>, the Best American
Poetry and Pushcart Prize series, and elsewhere. Among his six
collections of poetry, <i><span style='font-style:italic'>Reading the Water</span></i>
won the 1997 Samuel French Morse Poetry Prize and the 1998 Kate Tufts Discovery
Award, and <i><span style='font-style:italic'>Liver</span></i> won the 1999
Felix Pollak Prize. Webb’s most recent collection, <i><span
style='font-style:italic'>Amplified Dog</span></i>, won the Benjamin Saltman
Prize. His o! ther prizes include the Academy of American Poets prize,
Whiting Writer's Award, and a fellowship from the Guggenheim Foundation. A
professional rock singer/guitarist for 15 years, Charles Webb is currently
professor of English at California State University, Long Beach, as well as a
licensed psychotherapist, specializing in work with c! reative artists.<br>

<b><span style='font-weight:bold'>Tony Barnstone</span></b>’s poetry, translations,
essays on poetics, and fiction have appeared in dozens of American literary
journals, from <i><span style='font-style:italic'>American Poetry Review </span></i>to
<i><span style='font-style:italic'>Agni.</span></i> His books include <a
href="http://web.whittier.edu/barnstone/SADJAZZ.html"><i><span
style='font-style:italic'>Sad Jazz: Sonnets</span></i></a> and <a
href="http://web.whittier.edu/barnstone/IMPURE.HTM"><i><span style='font-style:
italic'>Impure: Poems. </span></i></a>Among his translations are <i><span
style='font-style:italic'>The Anchor</span></i> <i><span style='font-style:
italic'>Book of Chinese Poetry</span></i>, <i><span style='font-style:italic'>Out
of the Howling Storm: The New Chinese Poetry</span></i>, and <i><span
style='font-style:italic'>The Art of Writing: Teachings of the Chinese Masters</span></i><a
href="http://web.whittier.edu/barnstone/IMPURE.HTM">. He has ! won
fellowships and awards from the California Arts Council, the Pushcart Prize,
The Sow's Ear Poetry Contest, the National Poetry Competition (Chester H. Jones
Foundation), and the Poetry Society of America. </a>Tony Barnstone is
professor of <a href="http://web.whittier.edu/academic/english/index.htm">English
at Whittier College</a>.<br>
