reliability are driving increased interest in solar energy among individuals,
investors, companies, governments and researchers. The increased interest also
is prompting the need for a reliable resource that can assist government
agencies, utilities, business and residential users to make the best decisions
about how to apply solar power economically and efficiently.</FONT></FONT></P>
<P style="LINE-HEIGHT: 13pt; MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt" class=MsoNormal><FONT
face=Calibri><FONT style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">The Southern California Research
Initiative for Solar Energy (SC-RISE), based at UCR’s College of
Engineering<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>- Center for
Environmental Research and Technology (CE-CERT), was established to serve as the
“honest broker” for information on all aspects of solar energy and a catalyst
for the adoption of affordable solar energy.</FONT></FONT></P>
<P style="LINE-HEIGHT: 13pt; MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt" class=MsoNormal><FONT
face=Calibri><B style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal"><FONT
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">Alfredo A. Martinez-Morales,</FONT></B><FONT
style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"> Managing Director of SC-RISE, will discuss some of the
latest research in making solar energy more affordable at the <B
style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal">Sept. 25 Randall Lewis Seminar Series.</B>
The seminar will begin at 5:30 p.m. at CE-CERT, 1084 Columbia Ave., in Riverside
<A href="http://cssd.ucr.edu/Images/CERTMAP-WEB.jpg">(See
Map).</A></FONT></FONT></P>
<P style="LINE-HEIGHT: 13pt; MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt" class=MsoNormal><FONT
face=Calibri><FONT style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">Dr. Martinez-Morales also will
discuss the role SC-RISE is taking to advance solar energy technologies, train
professionals for the industry, nurture new ventures and help commercial and
residential energy users in identifying appropriate applications for solar
energy.</FONT></FONT></P>
<P style="LINE-HEIGHT: 13pt; MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt" class=MsoNormal><FONT
face=Calibri><FONT style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">Dr. Martinez-Morales received his
Ph.D., M.S. and B.S. degrees in electrical engineering from UCR, conducting his
research at the Biomedical Science and Nanotechnology Laboratory with an
emphasis on materials synthesis and third generation
photovoltaics.</FONT></FONT></P>
<P style="LINE-HEIGHT: 13pt; MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt" class=MsoNormal><FONT
face=Calibri><FONT style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">His current research includes
concentrated photovoltaics (CPV), dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), ordered
bulk-heterojunction (OBHJ) solar cells, and Lithium-ion battery (LiB)
technology.</FONT></FONT></P>
<P style="LINE-HEIGHT: 13pt; MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt" class=MsoNormal><FONT
face=Calibri><FONT style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">Dr. Martinez-Morales has written or
co-written numerous research articles on nanowire arrays, quantum dots and other
findings in the fields of nanoelectronics and photovoltaics. He has received
several research honors and fellowships, including the UC Dissertation-Year
Fellowship and the National Science Foundation (NSF) East Asia and Pacific
Summer Institutes Fellowship.</FONT></FONT></P>
