<H4 class="style31 style50" align=center>Has Solar Energy Come of
Age?</H4>
<P class=style9 align=left><FONT size=2>Improvements in cost, efficiency
and reliability are driving increased interest in solar energy among
individuals, investors, companies, governments and researchers. The
increased interest also is prompting the need for a reliable resource that
can assist government agencies, utilities, business and residential users
to make the best decisions about how to apply solar power economically and

<P class=style9 align=left><FONT size=2>The Southern California Research
Initiative for Solar Energy (SC-RISE), based at UCR’s College of
Engineering - Center for Environmental Research and Technology (CE-CERT),
was established to serve as the “honest broker” for information on all
aspects of solar energy and as a catalyst for the adoption of affordable
solar energy. </FONT>
<P class=style9 align=left><FONT size=2><STRONG>Alfredo A.
Martinez-Morales,</STRONG> Managing Director of SC-RISE, will discuss some
of the latest research in making solar energy more affordable at the
<STRONG>Sept. 25 Randall Lewis Seminar Series.</STRONG> The seminar will
begin at 5:30 p.m. <SPAN id=locationtype>at a new location: CE-CERT, 1084
Columbia Ave., in Riverside. The seminar and parking are free, but seating
is limited and registration is required. (See registration and map links
below).</SPAN> </FONT>
<P class=style9 align=left><FONT size=2>Dr. Martinez-Morales also will
discuss the role SC-RISE is taking to advance solar energy technologies,
train professionals for the industry, nurture new ventures and help
commercial and residential energy users in identifying appropriate
applications for solar energy. </FONT>
<P class=style9 align=left><FONT size=2>Dr. Martinez-Morales received his
Ph.D., M.S. and B.S. degrees in electrical engineering from UCR,
conducting his research at the Biomedical Science and Nanotechnology
Laboratory with an emphasis on materials synthesis and third generation
photovoltaics. </FONT>
<P class=style9 align=left><FONT size=2>His current research includes
concentrated photovoltaics (CPV), dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs),
ordered bulk-heterojunction (OBHJ) solar cells, and Lithium-ion battery
(LiB) technology. </FONT>
<P class=style9 align=left><FONT size=2>Dr. Martinez-Morales has written
or co-written numerous research articles on nanowire arrays, quantum dots
and other findings in the fields of nanoelectronics and photovoltaics. He
has received several research honors and fellowships, including the UC
Dissertation-Year Fellowship and the National Science Foundation (NSF)
East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes Fellowship. </FONT>

<P class="p style38" align=left>RandallLewis is well known for his
innovative approaches to planning, designing, and marketing residential
communities as Executive Vice President of the Upland-based Lewis Group of
Companies.
<P class="p style38" align=left>He is regarded as an industry leader in
promoting the arts, education, healthy living and sustainable development
initiatives. He has been President of the Inland Empire Arts Foundation,
Secretary of the Los Angeles County Citizens Planning Council, director of
the HomeBuilder's Council, and national director of the National
Association of HomeBuilders.
<P class="p style38" align=left>Mr. Lewis was named in the Los Angeles
Times 2006 “West 100” list as one of the top 100 influential people in
southern California. He has also received the California Business
Properties Association Champion of the Industry Award and has been
inducted into the California Building Industry Association Hall of Fame.
<P class="p style38" align=left>Mr. Lewis is a long time ULI member as
well as a Governor of the ULI Foundation. He serves on several executive
boards, including the USC School of Policy, Planning and Development, the
UCLA School of Public Policy, Loma Linda University Medical Center’s
Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Institute Advisory Council, Cal Poly
Pomona’s National Development Council, and co-chairs the San Bernardino
County Alliance for Education.
<P class="p style38" align=left>He is recognized as an expert in the real
estate industry and is frequently quoted in various newspapers, magazines
and trade journals. Randall has over 30 years of experience in the real
estate industry.
<P class="p style38" align=left>He received his B.A. from Claremont
