<H1 class="style31 style37" align=center>Creating A Living Canvas Through
Design, Selection</H1>
<P class=style9 align=left><FONT size=2><IMG hspace=5 alt="Theresa Arial"

height=340>Creating landscapes and gardens with appropriate plantings and
proper irrigation will be the topic of the Sept. 21 Randall Lewis Seminar
Series.</FONT></P>
<P class=style9 align=left><FONT size=2><STRONG>Theresa Arial</STRONG>,
Manager of the UCR Botanic Gardens, will demonstrate basic landscape
design by likening traditional art forms and landscape design. Through
comparisons, landscape examples, and applications, she will reveal her
methods in creating gardens and landscapes. The presentation will
highlight the benefits of a solid design, and the importance of plant
selection.</FONT></P>
<P class=style9 align=left><FONT size=2>The seminar will begin at 5:30
p.m. in Conference Room A, UCR Extension Building, 1200 University Ave. in
Riverside.</FONT></P>
<P class=style9 align=left><FONT size=2>Ms. Arial also will discuss our
existing landscapes, and how to incorporate less “thirsty” plants.
Specific examples of appropriate plant selections will be featured. She
will also address the need for revising irrigation systems, and how
changing water mandates should affect designs, and plant
choices.</FONT></P>
<H5 class=style9 align=center><FONT size=2>About the Speaker</FONT></H5>
<P class=style9 align=left><FONT size=2>Theresa Arial has been Botanic
Gardens Manager at UCR for five years. She is responsible for all aspects
of the Botanic Gardens maintenance, development, event preparation, and
staffing. She also serves on various garden committees, and interfaces
with surrounding communities through lectures and
presentations.</FONT></P>
<P class=style9 align=left><FONT size=2>Before coming to UCR, she worked
as Nursery Manager and Plant Sale propagator for the Huntington Library,
Art Collections, and Botanic Gardens. She also worked as a store manager
for Armstrong Nurseries and as a Student Foreman at the Mount San Antonio
College Horticulture Unit, where she earned an Associate of Science
degree, and certificates in Turf Management, Landscape Design, Parks
Management, and Irrigation Design. She has been actively involved in the
green trade for 24 years.</FONT></P>

<P class=style8 align=left><IMG hspace=3 alt="Randall Lewis" vspace=2
align=right src="Images/RandallLewis.jpg" width=100 height=169><FONT
size=2>Randall Lewis is well known for his innovative approaches to
planning, designing, and marketing residential communities as Executive
Vice President of the Upland-based Lewis Group of Companies. </FONT></P>
<P class=style8 align=left><FONT size=2>He has been Secretary of the Los
Angeles County Citizens Planning Council, Director of the Home Builder's
Council, National Director of the National Association of Home Builders,
and President of the Inland Empire Arts Foundation.</FONT></P>
<P class=style8 align=left><FONT size=2>He was inducted into the
California Building Industry Association Hall of Fame and was the
recipient of the Sales and Marketing Council's MAME Awards Marketing
Person of the Year. He is a long time ULI member as well as a Governor of
the ULI Foundation.</FONT></P>
<P class=style8 align=left><FONT size=2>He serves on several executive
boards, including the USC School of Policy, Planning and Development and
the UCLA School of Public Policy and Social Research.He received his B.A.
from Claremont McKenna College. </FONT></P>
