Aggressive Plans for the Future

<IMG hspace=6

Despite its amazing growth in recent years, Southern
California’s Inland region has always been upstaged economically by its
coastal neighbors. Some outside economic forecasts expect little change;
growth in high-paying skilled jobs, for instance, is expected to be slow
in the region and trail well behind the rest of the state.

But leaders in the City of Riverside are not planning to
acquiesce to fate. Instead, they have assembled an aggressive plan for
economic development that would create jobs and a sought-after workforce,
boost arts and education and generally enhance the city’s quality of
life.

Riverside Mayor Ronald O. Loveridge will
discuss the economic strategic plan -- called “Seizing Our Destiny: The
Agenda for Riverside’s Innovative Future” – at the Jan. 21 Randall Lewis
Seminar Series.

The seminar will begin at 5:30 p.m. in Conference
Room B, UCR Extension Building, 1200 University Ave., Riverside
(See MAP).

Loveridge describes the “Seizing Our Destiny” plan as “the
most important economic strategic plan ever adopted by the City of
Riverside, and offers a model for other cities to consider. And it is
especially important for the Inland Empire as we consider a future beyond
cheap dirt and construction.”

At noon on Jan. 21, Loveridge will be presenting his 17th
State of the City address, entitled, “Renaissance City: Seizing Our
Destiny.”

That evening at the Lewis seminar, Loveridge will present
an overview and analysis on the five major sections of the State of the
City address. Copies of the State of the City will be available. He also
will discuss Riverside’s Green Action Plan and its recognition as
California’s first Emerald City.
