These special scholarships are available exclusively to future science and mathematics teachers majoring in a STEM discipline. For the 2009-10 academic year, multiple scholarships of $10,000 per student will be awarded. Application Deadline for Junior and Senior Level Candidates: October 9, 2009. Integrated Teaching Credential Program at UCR: Informational Seminar 10/27/09 (Tuesday) at 11:10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in Pierce 111 11/2/09 (Monday) at 1:10 to 2:00 p.m. in Pierce 111 The Integrated Teaching Credential Program at UCR for science and mathematics is an intensive track for students who incorporate education with their science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) degree planning. Integrated Teaching Credential Program candidates: Complete lower-division courses that introduce students to the field of science/mathematics teaching. Complete early field experiences to observe and practice instructional strategies used in science/mathematics classrooms. Complete a sequence of education courses while satisfying requirements for a STEM major curriculum. Blend “how to teach” with “how to do science and/or mathematics.” Begin the UCR Teaching Credential Program during spring quarter of senior year. Ultimately, students preparing for the Integrated Teaching Credential track earn their bachelor’s STEM degree while preparing for admissions into the UCR teaching credential program. Public school field experiences are combined with field work, and paid fellowships are available. Financial Aid Workshops November 12, 2009 (Thursday) at 11:10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in SPR 1215 November 13, 2009 (Friday) at 11:10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in SPR 1215 There are many financial aid programs that are specifically geared toward assisting science/mathematics majors pursuing teaching careers, including the loan forgiveness grants like the TEACH Grant and the APLE Grant. The assistant director of UCR Financial Aid, Patsi Anderson, and assistant director of UCR Teacher Education, Paula Sutton, will present at these special workshops especially designed for SMI students. Teacher Resume Writing Workshop November 5, 2009 (Thursday) at 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in Pierce 1305 UCR Career Counselor, Sae Lee, will present strategies that will help SMI students convert their existing resumes to highlight skills and experiences that are sought by employers in science/mathematics education.
