</font>The California Science Teachers Association (CSTA) is pleased to
present a series of sessions designed for pre-service science teachers at
the <font size=4><b>California Science Education Conference -- October 30
- November 2, 2008 in San Jose</b></font>. Through a grant from the Payne
Family Foundation, you may apply to receive a stipend for attending the
conference. <br><br>
<u>The Payne Scholars program includes workshops specially designed for
pre-service science teachers, major speakers on standards-based
instruction, a networking reception with instructor-mentors, and a
certificate and T-shirt upon completion of the program. <br><br>
</u><b>Requirements for receiving stipend.<br>
<br>
Students must</b>:
<ul>
<li>Register (

the California Science Education Conference (
<a href="http://www.cascience.org/csta/conf_home.asp" eudora="autourl">
http://www.cascience.org/csta/conf_home.asp</a>) at the special rate for
pre-service teachers and join CSTA at the student rate.
<li>Complete the Payne Scholars application form.
<li>Attend at least five sessions, two of them designated as part of the
pre-service strand at the conference.
<li>Assist at conference registration for a minimum of two hours.
(Participants who volunteer for four hours will receive complimentary
conference registration in addition to receiving the stipend.)
<li>Complete the documentation log to receive the stipend.
