funding from the US Department of Energy to collect and model high-resolution
spatial data of threatened avian species in regions of high potential wind
development. Our interdisciplinary research team is currently collecting and
analyzing unique high-frequency GPS telemetry data on movement ecology of
golden eagles migrating through the central Appalachian region. We are
producing large-scale models of eagle movement in the context of wind and
topography and modeling local-scale movements of eagles in response to these
same parameters. Our initial work will generate first-cut probabilistic maps
showing relative risk to eagles of development of wind energy in the central Appalachians region. This position is created to further
this work, by advancing the current models, by holistically integrating the
large- and local-scale models of eagle movements, and by extending these models
to include data collected on movements of other local migratory birds of prey.</span></font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0.5in;"><font face="Calibri" size="2"><span style="font-size: 11pt;">The ideal candidate for this position will have
extensive spatial modeling and programming skills and experiences, as well as a
strong background in statistics and mathematics. A Ph.D. is required for this
position; applicants who have not yet completed their degree should indicate
their expected date of completion. The successful candidate should show a
strong record of publication, the ability to conduct research independently and
the capacity to function as a collaborator on a diverse research team.</span></font></p>
